Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has regained freedom from the Kuje Custodial Centre in Abuja after meeting bail conditions set by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja.
The spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), FCT Command, Adamu Duza, confirmed Bello’s release on Friday evening, stating, “Yahaya Bello has been released from the Kuje Custodial Centre after fulfilling the bail conditions set by the FCT High Court.”
A senior official at the facility also corroborated the release, noting that the process was completed Friday evening.
The release follows a Thursday ruling by Justice Maryann Anenih of the FCT High Court, who granted Bello bail in the sum of N500 million over money laundering charges. The bail conditions required Bello to provide three sureties with property in prime locations such as Guzape, Wuse 2, Apo, Asokoro, and Jabi. The sureties were also mandated to submit two passport photographs and valid identification, including their National Identification Number (NIN).
Additionally, the former governor was ordered to surrender his passport and other travel documents to the court registrar. Justice Anenih had earlier rejected Bello’s initial bail application on procedural grounds but granted bail to his co-defendants.
The Controller of the NCoS, FCT Command, Ajibogun Olatubosun, was present to oversee the release process and ensure compliance with all legal protocols.
