Euro 2028: UEFA confirms UK, Ireland as co-hosts

European football governing body, UEFA, has announced that UK and Ireland will co-host the 2028 European championship.

The decision comes after Turkey backed out from the bidding “war”, thereby leaving the UK and Ireland bid unopposed.

English FA chairman, Debbie Hewitt had in April described the bid as “pioneering” as it would bring enormous benefits to the domestic game of hosting the tournament.

She said they will focus on further developing football and engaging new fans, players and volunteers.

UEFA announced that 24 teams would be participating in the football Mundial, with 10 venues across the host countries.

Six of these venues include Villa Park, St James’ Park and Everton.

Others are Bramley Moore Dock stadium, Hampden Park in Glasgow, the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Dublin’s Aviva Stadium and Casement Park in Belfast.
