A Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court in Maitama has approved a N300 million bail for former Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Governor Godwin Emefiele. This comes after he was charged with four counts related to printing new Naira notes without following proper procedures.
It was reported that Emefiele pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The bail conditions also require Emefiele to provide two sureties, each owning titled property within the Maitama area of the FCT. Additionally, he must surrender his travel documents to the court and seek permission before traveling abroad.
Justice Anenih upheld the conditions of a previous bail granted to Emefiele by Justice Hamza Muazu of the FCT High Court in another criminal case. The judge specified that Emefiele could fulfill the bail requirements by providing certified true copies (CTCs) of the documents submitted for the earlier bail.
The trial is set to commence on May 28.
