The Lagos State government has announced plans to temporarily close the Eko Bridge for eight weeks, starting from September 26, to facilitate reconstruction work.
According to Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Lagos Commissioner for Transportation, the closure will be implemented in phases to minimize disruptions. To mitigate the impact on traffic, motorists will be diverted to alternative routes.
For those traveling to the Island from Funsho Williams Avenue, Osiyemi recommended using the service lane at Alaka to connect to Costain and access the Eko Bridge.
Another option is to take Costain to connect to Eko Bridge and then link to Apongbon to reach their destinations. Additionally, motorists can access Apongbon via Eko Bridge and then connect to Costain to reach Funsho Williams Avenue.
Osiyemi also suggested alternative routes for motorists heading to Surulere, advising them to take Costain to link to Breweries, then proceed to Abebe Village, and finally connect to Eric Moore/Bode Thomas to reach their destinations.
Furthermore, motorists can use Costain to access Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue or take Apapa Road from Costain to link Oyingbo, then access Adekunle to connect to the Third Mainland Bridge.
To minimize inconveniences and ensure a smooth flow of traffic, the commissioner assured that traffic managers will be present to guide motorists through the diversion.
