Ekiti State University Appoints New Vice Chancellor

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has appointed Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele as the new Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti. The appointment, effective August 20, 2024, marks a new chapter for the university.

Professor Ayodele, previously the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), succeeds Professor Edward Olanipekun, whose term as Vice Chancellor concludes on the same date. The announcement was made by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Yinka Oyebode.

Born in Ikere-Ekiti on August 13, 1963, Professor Ayodele’s educational journey began at Annunciation School in Ikere-Ekiti. He continued his studies at the Ondo State College of Education, where he earned a Nigeria Certificate in Education. He later obtained a First Class Bachelor of Education in Economics from Ondo State University (now Ekiti State University) in 1992. Furthering his education, he completed a Master’s degree and a PhD in Education Management from the University of Ibadan.

Professor Ayodele began his academic career as a Graduate Assistant at Ondo State University in 1995, advancing to the rank of Professor by 2012. His roles at the university have included Assistant Director of Affiliate Programmes, Acting Head of the Department of Educational Foundations and Management, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Director of the Directorate of Continuing Education Programmes/Distance Learning, and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) since 2022.

Governor Oyebanji, in his capacity as the Visitor to the University, has encouraged the new Vice Chancellor to leverage his extensive academic and administrative experience to enhance the university’s standing as a world-class institution. The Governor also extended his gratitude to the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Edward Olanipekun, for his dedicated service and wished him success in his future endeavors.
