Ekiti Local Government Officials Encouraged to Uphold High Moral Standards in Government Affairs

Ekiti State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Folorunso Olabode, has urged the officials in the local government system in the state to consistently exhibit the utmost levels of honesty and openness in carrying out their responsibilities.

The Commissioner issued this plea in Ado-Ekiti while inaugurating a one-day enlightenment workshop arranged for local government political office holders and Directors of Administration on the Code of Conduct for public officers in Nigeria.

Olabode encouraged participants to embody the principles of truthfulness, responsibility, and ethical behavior following the training, stressing that the code of conduct functions as a guiding principle and underscores the significance of avoiding conflicts of interest, practicing equity and impartiality, and safeguarding entrusted resources. He clarified that disclosing assets transparently also helps prevent corruption, indicating that nobody is exempt from the law.

The Directors of Administration were tasked to return and educate others in their respective Councils, highlighting the potency of documentation which could be used against someone in the future. The lead Facilitator and Acting State Director at the Code of Conduct Bureau, Solomon Omobolade, in his lecture, elucidated on the expected conduct of a public servant, as well as the values and conduct expected from an employee.

He emphasized that adherence to requirements and enforcement of necessary actions in carrying out duties are among the key guidelines of the Code of Conduct. In response on behalf of other Council Chairmen, the Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Oluwasegun Ojo, commended the state government for organizing the forum, acknowledging that participants gained valuable insights during the one-day program.

He pledged on behalf of the other Council Chairmen to uphold a superior standard of public ethics in the execution of government affairs and to ensure that their conduct and actions as public officers align with the highest principles of public ethics and accountability.
