The Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, expressed concern over the prevalence of cultism and cybercrimes universities within the state.
The Governor’s sentiments were shared by his Special Adviser on Security Matters, Brigadier Ebenezer Ogundana, during a stakeholders’ meeting organized by the Nigeria Police Strategic Forum. The gathering was geared towards training the Schools Protection Squad (SPS) on enhancing school security in Ekiti State.
Governor Oyebanji specifically highlighted the issue of cultism and cybercrimes at the state-owned Ekiti State University (EKSU), acknowledging the need for concerted efforts to address these challenges. He pledged the government’s continued support for security agencies to combat these issues effectively.
The Governor also called on school administrators to intensify their efforts in combating these menaces and assured that his administration would maintain an open-door policy to ensure the safety of lives and properties in the state.
In his address, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Akinwale Adeniran, emphasized that ensuring the security of lives and property is a collaborative responsibility between the government and the society.
The program, initiated by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, aims to enhance the security of students, teachers, and create safe school environments nationwide. This initiative, set to commence in Niger, Ekiti States, and Abuja, is designed to curb attacks on schools and foster a secure educational environment.
Commissioner Adeniran expressed satisfaction that Ekiti State was chosen as one of the states to launch this program, indicating the commitment to safeguarding educational institutions and promoting a safe learning environment for students and educators.
