Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria — Governorship hopeful Otunba Emmanuel Fayose of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has voiced serious concerns over recurring threats to his life amid his 2026 Ekiti governorship campaign.
In a statement issued over the weekend by his media director, Wasiu Adejumo, Fayose revealed he has been receiving multiple anonymous calls and messages warning him to abandon his political ambition.
He indicated that credible intelligence points to certain political figures, both within and outside his party, potentially orchestrating efforts to silence him before the upcoming elections.
“Every day, I get unfamiliar calls and texts threatening my life and advising me to withdraw from the 2026 race. My safety and that of my family is at risk. Should anything happen, Nigerians and the global community should hold Governor Biodun Oyebanji and my elder brother, former Governor Ayodele Fayose, accountable,” he alleged.
Fayose believes his stature as a leading opposition figure in Ekiti has attracted these menacing threats.
He condemned political intimidation and called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, and the Inspector General of Police to urgently ensure his protection.
“Democracy should embody free will and the people’s choice, not coercion or violence. I promise to serve Ekiti with honesty but cannot do so living under constant threat. I urge the Presidency, NSA, and IGP to address these dangers seriously and safeguard me,” Fayose declared.
He reminded the public of his recent investiture and dinner event in London, where Ekiti natives in the diaspora gathered in support, underscoring that his campaign is grounded in unity and not violence.
Fayose appealed to Nigerians and the international community to assist in protecting democracy, fairness, and freedom of choice in Ekiti.
