EKEDC Disassociates from Alleged Badagry Prepaid Meter Scheme

Lagos, NigeriaEko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has denied involvement in a prepaid meter distribution initiative reportedly launched in Badagry, Lagos.

The electricity distribution company issued a disclaimer on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, August 14, 2025, clarifying that it has no affiliation with the individuals or entities behind the reported scheme.

“Our attention has been drawn to a circulating online publication titled ‘Hunpe Receives Briefing as 70,000 Prepaid Meter Distribution Kicks Off in Badagry,’” the statement read. “The report claims the initiative is a public-private partnership involving the government and a firm named DamLaw Energy Concept. EKEDC categorically states that it is not a party to this initiative.”

Signed by EKEDC Management, the disclaimer emphasized that the individuals mentioned in the publication—Messrs. Anthony Adekunle Ogungbemi and Engr. Daniel Adedokun—have no ties to the company.

“They are not our contractors, not certified Meter Asset Providers (MAPs), and not affiliated with EKEDC in any capacity,” the statement clarified.

EKEDC further outlined that all legitimate meter rollout programmes are conducted under federal government-backed frameworks, in collaboration with certified partners, and are preceded by transparent public communication.

The company advised customers to be vigilant and verify any metering initiatives before participating.

“We urge the public to exercise caution and confirm the legitimacy of any metering offer. EKEDC will not be liable for losses arising from unauthorised transactions or metering schemes,” the company warned.
