Egypt Named Host for 2025 U-20 AFCON After Cote d’Ivoire

Abuja, Nigeria  —  Egypt has been confirmed as the new host of the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations following Cote d’Ivoire’s withdrawal from the tournament.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the decision after the Fédération Ivoirienne de Football (FIF) and the Ivorian government officially communicated their inability to proceed with hosting duties due to unforeseen circumstances.

Egypt had previously expressed interest in staging the biennial competition, having submitted a bid alongside other potential hosts. With Cote d’Ivoire stepping aside, the Egyptian Football Association and the Egyptian government have stepped in to ensure the tournament proceeds as planned.

Among the teams set to compete in the prestigious youth competition is Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, led by head coach Aliyu Zubairu. The Nigerian squad has been placed in Group B, where they will face Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa in what promises to be an intense contest for continental supremacy.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from Sunday, April 27, to Sunday, May 18, 2025, with matches expected to showcase Africa’s next generation of football stars.
