NIGERIA – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has stated that social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), will be released upon fulfilling his bail conditions. EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale told BBC Pidgin that VDM’s arrest followed multiple petitions from unnamed individuals alleging misconduct.
Although speculation linked GTBank to the arrest, Oyewale declined to confirm the bank’s involvement, citing the need to protect petitioners. VDM’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, claimed the arrest occurred inside GTBank premises, sparking online outrage and a protest at the bank’s Abuja headquarters. GTBank, however, released CCTV footage to deny the claim and demanded a transparent investigation.
Oyewale added that VDM will soon be charged to court.
