EFCC investigates 11 suspected oil thieves, vessel arrested in Lagos

An anti graft agency, EFCC, revealed that it is investigating 11 suspected oil thieves and 1 vessel, MT SAISNIL II and arrested by the Nigerian Navy.

The spokesperson for the Commission, Mr Dele Oyewole, attested to this on Saturday in a statement.

He said that suspects and the vessel were handed over to the Commission by the Nigerian Navy, NNS Beecroft, Apapa, Lagos.

Oyewole added that the vessel and the crew were intercepted and arrested on February 7, 2024 by naval officers.

According to the spokesperson of the commission, the suspects were allegedly involved in illegal oil bunkering and Automatic Identification System, AIS, infractions at Abo Oilfield, Ogogoro Community, Ondo State.

“The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded by the Commission’s operatives in its Lagos Command,” he said.
