The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an Immigration Fraud Section within various Commands across the country.
This development was announced by the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, during a meeting with a delegation from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), led by Superintendent Rabhi Abdallah, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
In a statement posted on its official X account (formerly Twitter), Mr. Olukoyede explained that the initiative aims to combat immigration fraud, mitigate the reputational damage to Nigeria, and protect citizens from immigration scams.
“We are dedicating our attention and resources to this area to ensure that Nigerians and diplomatic missions in Nigeria are no longer victims of visa and immigration fraud,” he stated.
Superintendent Abdallah of the RCMP highlighted that their visit to Nigeria was to explore avenues for collaboration with the EFCC. He mentioned that Canadian law enforcement officers would be deployed for joint operations and investigations with the EFCC, enhancing cooperation that benefits Nigeria and the West African region.
Robert Aboumitri, Senior Intelligence Analyst with the RCMP, praised the EFCC for its efficiency, professionalism, and successful outcomes, making it the ideal partner for this new collaboration.
