The Edo State Government has cautioned against unlawful assemblies by cult groups in the state under the pretext of marking their anniversary on July 7.
State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, issued the warning, stating that the government had been informed by security agencies that Aiye (Black Axe) planned to celebrate its anniversary on July 7, 2024.
Nehikhare highlighted concerns that such a celebration could result in attacks on other cult groups and emphasized that law enforcement agencies are on high alert to detain and prosecute any group that disregards the State Anti-Cultism Law.
The government has urged youths in the state to refrain from partaking in any illegal gatherings on July 7 and reminded cult groups about the prohibitions outlined in the State Anti-Cultism Law. Parents and guardians have also been advised to caution their children against associating with cult groups and breaking the law.
The public has been assured that security agencies are vigilant in maintaining safety and security across the state.
