The Department of State Services (DSS) has released Adejuwon Soyinka, the Regional Editor of The Conversation Africa, following his detention at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to demand Soyinka’s immediate release, citing concerns over freedom of expression.
In a statement, SERAP urged Nigeria’s international partners and UN human rights bodies to condemn the infringement on fundamental rights, including freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and association within the country.
