The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a 32-year-old blogger, Augustus, for allegedly cloning its official website and publishing a fraudulent recruitment notice.
The suspect, a native of Akwa Ibom State, was apprehended on Thursday at his residence on Akpan Eno Lane in Abak. Augustus, a graduate of the University of Uyo and a content creator, reportedly created the fake website to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians into believing that the DSS was conducting a recruitment exercise.
A DSS official stated, “Augustus was tracked and arrested by our operatives at his residence. His actions were aimed at defrauding the public.”
The agency has since flagged the fake recruitment notice and issued a public warning, urging Nigerians to disregard such fraudulent claims.
Augustus is expected to be arraigned in court soon, where he will face charges related to cloning the website and attempting to defraud the public.
The DSS has reiterated its commitment to protecting Nigerians from fraudulent activities and ensuring justice is served.
