Dortmund Edge Closer to Securing Jobe Bellingham Transfer

Dortmund, GermanyBundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are growing increasingly optimistic about finalizing a deal for Sunderland’s rising star, Jobe Bellingham, as the summer transfer window approaches.

The 19-year-old midfielder, who played a pivotal role in Sunderland’s promotion back to the Premier League after a seven-year absence, has attracted significant interest from several European clubs. However, Dortmund now believe they are leading the chase for his signature.

Although formal negotiations with Sunderland have yet to commence, strong signals from Bellingham’s camp suggest he is eager to emulate his elder brother Jude’s successful stint with the German side. Dortmund insiders remain confident that a deal will be struck in the coming weeks.

Their confidence is buoyed by a dramatic resurgence late in the Bundesliga season. Dortmund were languishing in 11th place with just eight games remaining but mounted an extraordinary run — winning seven matches and drawing one against eventual champions Bayern Munich — to finish fourth and book a Champions League slot for next season.

Jude Bellingham, now at Real Madrid, made a major impact during his time at Dortmund between 2020 and 2023, racking up 132 appearances and lifting the German Cup alongside fellow stars Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho. His tenure, however, ended in heartbreak, as he missed Dortmund’s title-clinching opportunity on the final day of the 2022–23 season due to injury.

Jobe, who was recently crowned the Championship’s Young Player of the Year — an accolade Jude also claimed five years prior — has further burnished his reputation by earning a spot in the Championship Team of the Season and starring in Sunderland’s play-off final victory over Sheffield United.

With Dortmund keen to reinforce their midfield and Bellingham eager to take the next step in his career, all eyes now turn to the coming days as the deal edges closer to completion.
