Don’t Use Tinubu Reforms as an Excuse for Poor Performance

The Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG) has criticized Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed for attributing governance challenges to President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms.

  • In a statement signed by Chairman Emeka Nwankpa and Secretary Dapo Okubanjo, TMSG dismissed Governor Mohammed’s claims, describing them as baseless and an excuse for incompetence. They argued that only a “lazy and ineffective” governor would blame Tinubu’s policies for poor performance.

The group referenced a recent public address by Governor Mohammed, in which he alleged that Tinubu’s tax reforms would disproportionately affect Northern Nigeria. According to TMSG, these remarks were “absurd and preposterous,” emphasizing that the reforms aim to streamline over 50 taxes and enhance state revenues.

TMSG highlighted the significant increase in federal allocations to Bauchi State under Tinubu’s administration. The state’s budget has tripled since 2020, yet Bauchi reportedly ranks fifth in the number of out-of-school children and tops the list of states lacking foreign investments in recent years.

The group called on Governor Mohammed to account for the increased funds received and address the state’s developmental shortcomings instead of politicizing economic policies. They emphasized that Tinubu’s reforms have provided states with more financial resources and accused the Bauchi governor of playing to the gallery rather than focusing on improving the welfare of his citizens.

TMSG concluded by urging Governor Mohammed to reassess his administration and prioritize addressing the state’s developmental challenges, reminding him of the legacy of past Bauchi leaders who advanced the state’s growth.
