In a bid to shape the future of media and society, DNews Info (DNI) held its Monthly News Review Programme on Saturday, gathering young media enthusiasts and industry speakers to discuss vital national topics, including Artificial Intelligence, the future of journalism, corruption, and online education in Nigeria.
The event, hosted by Miss Damilola Adeleke, kicked off with an opening prayer led by Miss Margaret, followed by a welcome address by Mr. David Adepoju, who introduced DNI to the listeners. In his opening words, he stated: “You can deform or reform depending on what you listen to,” emphasizing the power of media content in shaping minds.
Mr. Enoch, a key member of the DNI team, proceeded to introduce the newsroom team members to the audience. This was followed by an overview of the event’s theme, “Illuminating the Future of the Media,” presented by Miss Damilola.
First Speaker: Mr. David Adepoju – AI and the Fight Against Corruption
The first guest speaker, Mr. David Adepoju, a distinguished alumnus and best graduating student of FUOYE, delivered two thought-provoking talks. He began by demystifying Artificial Intelligence (AI), describing it as a tool that performs tasks like humans and noting its evolution into generative AI.
“AI is like coffee—it’s only palatable with the right mix. Without human intelligence, AI is incomplete,” he said, stressing that AI must be guided by human reasoning to reach its full potential.
Mr. Adepoju transitioned into his second presentation on “The Impact of Corruption in Nigeria: Effects and Solutions.” He described corruption as a key factor hindering national progress.
“Corruption is not just about stealing money; it’s about stealing the future and destiny of a nation,” he said, urging young Nigerians to take responsibility in building a better nation.
Second Speaker: Mr. Israel Akinbami – Online Learning and Nigeria’s Educational Future
Mr. Israel Akinbami, a representative of ACAD, was the second speaker. He focused on the impact of online learning on Nigerian students, emphasizing the importance of self-discipline and individual effort in virtual education.
“Online learning can lead to success with little or no cost if approached with the right mindset,” he said, encouraging young learners to take advantage of digital platforms.
Interactive Segment: Questions, Reflections, and Ideas
The programme featured a contribution and Q&A session, where attendees expressed their thoughts and asked questions.
Mr. Godsent stated, “Corruption won’t change overnight, but we can all work towards bringing change.” When asked if corruption could ever be completely eradicated, Mr. Israel responded with optimism, saying it’s possible if people carry the right mindset.
Another pressing question was raised about the viability of Computer-Based Exams (CBEs) for WAEC and NECO. Mr. Israel responded that CBEs are a progressive idea and, if implemented correctly, could revolutionize standardized testing in Nigeria.
Closing Moments
The event ended with a group photograph and a heartfelt vote of thanks by Mr. Damilola Adepoju. Mr. Enoch gave the closing remarks, encouraging everyone to stay committed to transforming the media landscape. The programme concluded with a closing prayer led by Mr. Enoch, and Miss Damilola expressed her gratitude to the guest speakers, team members, and the audience.
The DNI News Review served as a beacon of enlightenment, engagement, and inspiration for the future of Nigerian youth, media, and national development.
