Deputy Senate President Declares APC Will Reclaim Kano.

Senator Barau Jibrin, Deputy Senate President, has expressed confidence that Kano State will be reclaimed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election cycle. His statement came during a Senate screening session for Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, nominated by President Bola Tinubu to serve as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development.

Speaking before the Senate’s Committee of the Whole on Wednesday, Jibrin, who represents the Kano North Senatorial District, strongly endorsed Ata’s capabilities and political influence. “Mr. Chairman, I don’t have much to say, but I want everyone here to know that Ata is a political juggernaut,” Jibrin remarked. “That’s why my colleague here mentioned feeling threatened by him; Ata is a round peg in a round hole, both experienced and widely respected.” He concluded by asserting that, with Ata’s influence, APC would secure Kano’s leadership in the upcoming elections.

Kano State, the largest in northern Nigeria and the second-largest nationally with a population exceeding 15 million, is currently governed by the opposition New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). The Deputy Senate President’s remarks underscore APC’s strategy to reclaim political control in Kano, seen as a critical battleground due to its significant population and economic influence.

Ata’s nomination, part of President Tinubu’s recent ministerial appointments, positions him to support federal initiatives in housing and urban development. Senate confirmation remains pending, with a decision expected in plenary later in the day. Should Ata be confirmed, APC leaders believe his political influence could bolster the party’s presence in Kano and pave the way for a successful electoral campaign.
