Paris, France — Paris Saint-Germain star winger Ousmane Dembélé has revealed that despite an exceptional season, he does not view winning the Ballon d’Or as an obsession.
In a recent interview with PSG’s official website, the French international acknowledged the prestige of the award but emphasized that his personal focus remains rooted in enjoying football and contributing to his team.
The 2024/2025 season has been a landmark one for Dembélé, who played a vital role in PSG’s clean sweep of titles — lifting the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and the French Super Cup.
“Of course, the Ballon d’Or is every footballer’s dream. I used to watch it being awarded on Téléfoot when I was a kid — the moment was magical, the trophy itself iconic,” Dembélé reminisced.
However, the former Barcelona man was quick to tone down the hype: “For me, it’s not an obsession. I just want to make people happy when they come to watch us play. I love dribbling, I love scoring, but above all, I love helping my team succeed.”
He added, “People are free to have their opinions — some may support me, some may not. That’s life. What matters most is staying true to the game and giving your all. Let’s see what the future holds.”
Dembélé’s balanced perspective stands out in a sport often driven by individual accolades, making his humility as notable as his talent.
