Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has vehemently denounced the unprovoked massacre of officers and soldiers belonging to the 63 Brigade in Okuama community, Ughelli South Local Government Area.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori expressed profound distress over the barbaric violence inflicted upon the military personnel, stressing that such egregious acts contradict the cherished values and traditions of the Delta State populace.
Asserting the state government’s unwavering commitment to fostering peace and security, Governor Oborevwori extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the fallen soldiers, while also conveying sympathies to the Nigerian Army and the Armed Forces at large.
Emphasizing Delta State’s adherence to the rule of law and respect for human dignity, the Governor issued a stern warning against the perpetration of such heinous crimes, declaring zero tolerance for assaults on military personnel.
Furthermore, Governor Oborevwori urged all citizens and residents to uphold the law, underscoring the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and protection of lives and property across the state.
The tragic incident unfolded when soldiers, responding to a distress call stemming from a communal crisis between Okuoma and Okoloba communities, were ambushed by a group of youths upon arrival in Okuama community, resulting in a fatal clash that claimed the lives of numerous military personnel.
Meanwhile, in response to the incident, General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, has ordered a thorough investigation into the deaths of the four senior officers and twelve soldiers, seeking to unravel the circumstances surrounding the harrowing ordeal.
