Delta State Forms Committee to Address Impending Flood

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has authorized the creation of a twenty-member flood disaster management committee in response to warnings of potential flooding in parts of the state.

In a statement, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, outlined the committee’s terms of reference: to propose effective flood prevention and management strategies, address displacement issues, provide relief to victims, and advise the Governor on necessary actions.

The SSG will serve as the Chairman of the committee, with the Commissioner of the Bureau for Special Duties, Mr. Ejiro Etacherure, acting as Co-Chairman.

The committee will also include the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ejiro Jamani; the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme; the Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibuogwu; and the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu.

Additionally, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services, and Girl Child Development, Orode Uduaghan; the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza; and the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau for Special Duties, Mr. Gregory Ejohwomu, who will serve as the committee’s secretary, are also members.
