“Delta Leads as Rivals Chase at NSF 2024”

Abeokuta, Ogun StateDefending champions Team Delta have extended their dominance at the ongoing 2024 National Sports Festival, pulling significantly ahead of their closest challengers, Bayelsa State.

Delta surged further ahead on Saturday by clinching 10 additional gold medals, solidifying their lead at the top of the medals table. Their current haul stands at 44 gold, 19 silver, and 40 bronze medals, placing them comfortably ahead in the race for overall victory.

Team Bayelsa, which briefly led the table earlier in the competition, now hold second place with a tally of 33 gold, 23 silver, and 23 bronze medals.

Team Rivers follow closely in third, with 26 gold, 21 silver, and 26 bronze medals, while host state Ogun maintained a strong presence in fourth position, securing 25 gold, 16 silver, and 24 bronze medals in front of enthusiastic home supporters.

Team Oyo rounds out the top five, having collected 16 gold, 17 silver, and 21 bronze medals.

One of the biggest movers on the table was Team Abia, climbing to ninth position with a commendable six gold, eight silver, and 21 bronze medals — a notable improvement in their overall standing.

With competition intensifying across events, attention now shifts to the final stretch as athletes aim to boost their states’ chances of finishing strong.
