Asaba, Nigeria — Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has called on Nigerians to shun inflammatory remarks and divisive tendencies, emphasizing the need for unity, peace, and development to honor the sacrifices of the nation’s fallen heroes and veterans.
The governor made this appeal during a special interdenominational thanksgiving service held at Emmanuel The Saviour Catholic Church in Asaba to commemorate the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day. Represented by Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, Governor Oborevwori urged citizens to emulate the dedication and selflessness of the fallen heroes, advocating peace, justice, and unity as their enduring legacy.
Addressing the congregation, the governor highlighted the need for global harmony and called for prayers to resolve ongoing conflicts, including the Israel-Palestinian and Russia-Ukraine wars. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of veterans and their families, stressing the importance of supporting those who have served the nation.
In his sermon, Monsignor John Aduba, Rector of Saint Joseph Pro Cathedral, praised the courage and sacrifices of serving, retired, and fallen soldiers. He urged greater attention to the needs of the families of the deceased, emphasizing the nation’s responsibility to honor and preserve their legacy.
The thanksgiving service, attended by Deputy Governor Onyeme, service commanders, veterans, and other dignitaries, concluded with special prayers offered to honor the nation’s heroes.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s pledge to foster peace, unity, and development in Delta State while working to support initiatives that uplift veterans and their families.
