Dele Momodu Quits PDP, Joins ADC Over Party Hijack Claims

Abuja, NigeriaRenowned journalist and Ovation Magazine publisher, Dele Momodu, has formally announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s capture by “anti-democratic forces.”

In a letter dated July 17, 2025, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 4, Ihievbe, Owan East LGA, Edo State, Momodu declared his immediate departure from the party and alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a new coalition he believes can challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

“My reason is simple and straightforward. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces… It is, therefore, honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them,” Momodu stated.

He emphasized his commitment to a new political direction, aligning with the ADC to “rescue Nigeria’s democracy and economy from its current decline.”

Earlier this month, Momodu accused Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of acting as a political mole within the PDP, alleging that Wike covertly supported APC efforts during the 2023 elections.

“The ruling party does not want competition in 2027, so they are sending their moles into any formidable opposition,” Momodu said during a Channels TV interview, adding that PDP’s current state was “a prophecy foretold.”

He further criticized the Tinubu administration, arguing that Nigeria’s economic and social conditions had significantly deteriorated.

“Is this the Nigeria of your dreams? Are you better today than two years ago? Things are much worse now than when Buhari left,” he questioned.

The veteran politician concluded by reaffirming his dedication to restoring credible opposition politics and promoting effective leadership that aligns with Nigeria’s democratic ideals.
