Kano, Nigeria — Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has inaugurated a 36-member taskforce on voter registration, charging them with the responsibility of ensuring the state reaches 10 million registered voters by the end of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Speaking through the Secretary to the State Government, Farouk Umar, Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of mobilizing citizens to register and obtain their voter cards, essential tools for exercising civic duties in electing leaders.
The state currently has about five million registered voters, and the taskforce, chaired by Commissioner for Information and Home Affairs Comrade Abdullahi Waiya, has been mandated to double that figure.
Governor Yusuf underlined the government’s commitment to supporting the process while stressing fairness, insisting that no eligible voter should be denied registration regardless of background or religion.
He further charged the committee to work closely with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and relevant stakeholders to enlighten, mobilize, monitor, and evaluate the registration process, considering Kano’s political significance.
In response, Comrade Waiya thanked the governor for the trust and assured that the committee would leave no stone unturned in capturing all eligible voters across the state.
