The Conference of Civil Societies and Civil Military Cooperation in Nigeria has warned against attempts to politicize the recent drone strike in the Tudun Biri Community area of Kaduna State, which it described as a tragic loss.
In a press briefing held in Abuja, the Coordinator of Civil-Military Cooperation, Dr. Adams Otakwu, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and urged Nigerians at home and abroad, as well as the international community, to avoid drawing religious, political, and regional conclusions from the incident. He assured the public that an investigation was already underway.
“We caution those attempting to inflame tensions about the incident to stop immediately, and we look forward to the findings of the investigation,” Dr. Otakwu said.
He praised the quick intervention of the Nigerian Army, which has promised to cover the medical bills of the injured. He emphasized the importance of working together to address the security challenges facing the country.
He also called for a deeper understanding of the complexities of counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations, as well as the need for the full support of all Nigerians in this endeavor.
The organization praised the prompt visit of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff to console the community and promised to cover the costs of caring for and treating the injured. “We are hopeful that the investigation ordered by President Bola Tinubu will be conducted thoroughly and transparently, uncovering the root causes and preventing similar incidents from happening again,” said the organization.
The organization emphasized the importance of dialogue, collaboration, and information sharing between the government and communities in order to prevent and counter terrorism and insurgency. “We cannot stress enough the importance of dialogue, collaboration, and information sharing between the government and communities in the fight against terrorism and insurgency,” said the organization. It also called for increased investment in social infrastructure and the creation of economic opportunities in order to address the root causes of the problem.
On December 3rd, a tragic incident occurred when an air strike drone reportedly struck a group of worshipers, killing over a hundred people and injuring many more. The incident has been met with widespread shock and condemnation from the international community, with calls for an investigation into what went wrong and how it can be prevented from happening again. The loss of life is a tragedy and a reminder of the need for greater care and caution in the use of air strikes.
