Court Issues Injunction Against Pro-Wike Lawmakers

A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has taken a decisive step in the ongoing legislative crisis, issuing an interim injunction against the embattled Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, and 24 other lawmakers.

Presided over by Hon. Justice Charles Wali, the court’s ruling prohibits the aforementioned lawmakers from presenting themselves as members of the House. Furthermore, they are restrained from convening or assembling at the House of Assembly quarters or any other location to conduct legislative affairs. This injunction follows the declaration of their legislative seats as vacant, pending the outcome of the Motion on Notice.

The legal action was initiated by the newly elected factional Speaker, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, alongside two other lawmakers. Defendants in the case include the Governor of Rivers State, the Attorney-General of Rivers State, and the Honourable Chief Judge of Rivers State.
