Nigeria: A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order restraining the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions from taking disciplinary action against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The ruling, delivered by Justice Obiora Egwuatu, followed an ex parte application filed by Akpoti-Uduaghan’s counsel. The court has given the defendants 72 hours to show cause why an interlocutory injunction should not be issued against them, with the matter adjourned until March 10, 2025.
The Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions had earlier dismissed Akpoti-Uduaghan’s petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, alleging sexual harassment and abuse of office. Akpabio has denied the allegations. Akpoti-Uduaghan has also filed a defamation lawsuit against Akpabio, seeking N1.3 billion in damages over alleged defamatory remarks.
