A Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed a fundamental rights lawsuit filed by social media personality, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Bobrisky had accused the EFCC of infringing on his rights and sought damages of ₦200 million, along with a perpetual injunction preventing the agency from harassing, arresting, or detaining him.
Delivering the judgment on Thursday, November 28, 2024, Justice Alexander Owoeye ruled that Bobrisky’s claims lacked merit and were unsupported by credible evidence. The court held that the reliefs sought by the applicant, including the injunction and damages, could not be granted due to insufficient proof.
“The claims of the applicant against the respondents lack merit and are liable to be dismissed. It is accordingly dismissed,” the judge declared, rejecting the demand for damages against the EFCC.
The lawsuit, which also listed the National Assembly as a respondent, failed to convince the court on all fronts, resulting in a total dismissal of Bobrisky’s claims.
