Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists Certifies 143 Professionals, Advocates for Industry Standards

The Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG) has awarded certificates of practice to 143 professionals at its 14th induction ceremony in Abuja. The event highlighted the importance of upholding industry standards in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector. Dr. Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals Development, emphasized the need for professionals to protect the profession from quacks and prioritize their financial obligations to the council. COMEG Registrar, Prof. Zacheaus Opafunso, encouraged the inductees to leverage opportunities in the extractive industry and adopt digital tools for career growth. The event also introduced a unified reporting standard for mineral resources, developed by the African Union Development Centre, which replaces foreign models and aligns resource reporting with Africa’s unique geographical and cultural contexts .
