Comedian Micheal Usi Sworn in as Malawi’s Vice President

Micheal Usi was inaugurated as Malawi’s Vice President during a ceremony held in parliament in Lilongwe. He succeeds Saulos Chilima, who tragically died in a plane crash earlier this month, along with eight others.

Dr. Usi, known for his acting career, received a standing ovation after his inauguration. In his address, he expressed both sadness and gratitude for his new role. “I accept this role with a heavy heart and deep gratitude,” he said, pledging to honor the memory of his predecessor. He also extended his thanks to President Lazarus Chakwera for his trust and support.

President Chakwera has been commended for appointing Dr. Usi, who was the deputy of Chilima’s party, thus respecting the alliance between their two parties.

Despite his new political role, Dr. Usi remains a controversial figure due to his acting career. He is popularly known as “Manganya,” a mischievous character he portrays in the widely watched TV sitcom “Tikuferanji.”
