The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Oil, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, has instructed the completion of pending projects at the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies in Kaduna. Following a tour of the college, Lokpobiri announced that the institution would soon commence activities.
Established in 2009, the college aims to provide essential knowledge and skills for the advancement of the oil, gas, and energy sectors. Senator Lokpobiri emphasized that the facility, built to global standards, would not be allowed to go to waste.
He highlighted that the operationalization of the college would reduce the need for foreign exchange spent on education abroad, as local studies in the sector would now be possible. Additionally, with many African countries producing oil, the college is expected to generate significant revenue and become a model for other nations.
Ahmed Galadima, Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, detailed that the college would launch with 19 programs across six departments and three faculties, in collaboration with three international universities for its curriculum.
The college’s facilities include an international conference center, hotel, power substation, and water treatment plant.
