ABUJA , NIGERIA: The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to the One-China principle, urging journalists to ensure accurate and responsible reporting on the status of Taiwan.
Speaking at a recent media engagement in Abuja, Mr. Zhu Songbo, Director of Political Affairs at the Chinese Embassy, emphasized that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, framing the issue as a matter of internal affairs rooted in the country’s civil war history.
Zhu stressed that the resolution of the Taiwan issue lies solely with the Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and must be achieved through peaceful means. He cautioned against the use of language that implies Taiwanese independence, noting such terminology undermines China’s sovereignty and contradicts international consensus.
He further noted Nigeria’s continued support for the One-China policy, reflected in recent diplomatic engagements, including President Bola Tinubu and Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar’s visits to Beijing.
Observers have praised Beijing’s diplomatic consistency, highlighting that Taiwan has never been formally recognized as an independent state and is widely acknowledged, including by Nigeria, as part of China’s territory.
