Lagos, Nigeria — Tosin Adarabioyo, Chelsea FC defender, has been honoured with the prestigious African Illustrious Award in recognition of his groundbreaking contribution to global football excellence.
The accolade was presented by My Media Africa, a Pan-African media organization committed to showcasing African excellence across various spheres, including sports, business, innovation, leadership, technology, and the arts.
Adarabioyo made history as the first Nigerian footballer to win the new FIFA Club World Cup, following Chelsea’s recent triumph — a milestone that inspired the recognition.
In a statement released on Thursday, My Media Africa described the award as “a symbol of what becomes possible when talent, discipline, and opportunity align.”
The event, which took place at the organisation’s Lekki office, witnessed the football star receiving the award in person.
Reflecting on the honour, the former Manchester City defender expressed deep pride and a sense of purpose. “This award goes beyond a personal achievement — it celebrates heritage, excellence, and the impact of representing Nigeria on a global stage,” Adarabioyo said.
“I’m happy I played a key role in winning the trophy. I will keep striving to leave an illustrious legacy worthy of honours like this,” he added.
