London, England — Chelsea Football Club has withdrawn from the loan agreement to send striker Nicolas Jackson to Bayern Munich, according to Sky Sports and multiple sources.
The decision came after Liam Delap suffered a hamstring injury during Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday, leaving the club short of senior forwards.
Chelsea’s football leadership, in consultation with coach Enzo Maresca, decided to retain Jackson to bolster the attacking options amid injuries, leading to the cancellation of the loan move.
Jackson, who had traveled to Munich for a medical and was poised to join Bayern on a season-long loan, has been instructed to return to London and rejoin Chelsea’s first-team squad.
The 24-year-old extended his contract with Chelsea last year until 2033. The loan deal was reportedly worth a £13 million fee, with Bayern having an option to purchase Jackson for £56.2 million.
Speaking after the Fulham win, Maresca commented on squad depth, saying, “When you have two strikers, it’s enough. When one is injured, it probably is not enough.”
Jackson’s loan collapse follows the recent departure of Christopher Nkunku to AC Milan, further limiting Chelsea’s attacking choices.
