The United Nigeria Airlines on Monday cancelled its entire flight schedule, leaving passengers stranded, the Nation reports.
According to the paper, an unidentified man in a viral video, believed to be one of the stranded passengers, expressed his grievance concerning the development.
The man reportedly said, “They will make decisions without even putting customers into consideration as if they are begging them to fly. They have been charged flight money, after boarding everybody, telling them the flight was canceled, what did they do, nothing.”
Recall that the United Nigeria Airline flight NUA0504, operating from the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos en route to Abuja had on Sunday landed at Asaba International Airport in Delta State.
The development, which appeared shocking to passengers, was said to be due to poor destination weather in the nation’s capital.
However, the management of the airline, in a statement issued by its Head of Corporate Communications, Achilleu-Chud Uchegbu, said that the announcement was made in error.
According to Uchegbu, the pilot of the aircraft was aware of the diversion and was properly briefed.
Following the development also, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, suspended all foreign lease aircraft under the United Nigeria Airlines.
