CHAN 2024: Tanzania Triumphs Over Burkina Faso in Exciting Opening Match

Dar es Salaam, TanzaniaCo-host Tanzania kickstarted their Group B campaign at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) with a commanding 2-0 victory against Burkina Faso on Saturday, thrilling the home crowd.

The match saw an energetic start, with the Taifa Stars creating the better chances early on. Tanzania’s Toto came close to breaking the deadlock with a fierce shot that was spectacularly saved by the Burkinabé goalkeeper, keeping the scoreline level in the early stages.

Despite a few missed opportunities in both halves, Tanzania finally made the breakthrough just before halftime. In the second minute of added time, a penalty was awarded after Mzize was fouled inside the box. Abdul Suleyman Sopu stepped up confidently to convert the spot-kick, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead heading into the break.

Continuing their pressure in the second half, Tanzania doubled their advantage in the 72nd minute. Hussein expertly timed his run to evade the offside trap, connecting with a precise cross from Didi Ali to head the ball into the net, electrifying the crowd and securing a 2-0 lead.

This victory earned Tanzania all three points in their opening game, sending a strong message to their Group B rivals as they embark on their CHAN 2024 journey on home soil.
