Nigeria: The Supreme Court has issued a restraining order against the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Accountant General of the Federation, and other organizations from disbursing funds to the Rivers State government
This decision comes after the court unanimously rejected Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s cross-appeal, which contested the legitimacy of the House of Assembly presided over by Speaker Martin Amaewhule.
The court’s five-member panel, led by Justice Emmanuel Agim, affirmed Amaewhule as the authentic Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The panel also ordered the Assembly to immediately resume sitting with all elected members. Furthermore, the court ruled that Governor Fubara’s actions, including the demolition of the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex, constituted an abuse of executive power aimed at hindering the Assembly’s lawful duties.
