Abuja, Nigeria — The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the Christian community by fostering closer collaboration with the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) to address pressing national challenges.
This resolution was emphasized by Archbishop Daniel Okoh, President of CAN, in a congratulatory statement to Bishop Wale Oke on his re-election as President of PFN during the association’s 18th Biennial Conference held in Abuja.
Highlighting the impact of Bishop Oke’s leadership, Archbishop Okoh commended his efforts in uniting Pentecostal churches across the country and championing key discussions on moral and ethical issues.
“His re-election is not only timely but a reaffirmation of our shared commitment to advancing Christian values in Nigeria’s public space,” Archbishop Okoh stated.
He further urged members of the Christian community to rally behind Bishop Oke’s vision for a stronger, more unified, and influential Christian presence in the nation.
Beyond denominational affiliations, Archbishop Okoh extended his call for unity and faith, encouraging all Nigerians, regardless of religious background, to pray for peace, prosperity, and national progress.
Recognizing the historical contributions of Christianity to Nigeria’s social, political, educational, and economic development, the CAN President underscored the importance of synergy among religious groups, government, and civil society in tackling systemic issues such as corruption, inequality, and religious intolerance.
Nigeria, a religiously diverse nation with Christianity and Islam as dominant faiths, has long benefited from the transformative power of faith-based institutions. However, Archbishop Okoh stressed that only through collaboration, dialogue, and mutual respect can the country fully harness the unifying role of religion in national development.
CAN and PFN reaffirm their dedication to fostering collective action that strengthens the Christian community and contributes to a more just and progressive Nigeria.
