The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed deep concern over the recurring deaths caused by stampedes during palliative distribution across the country.
In a statement issued by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, CAN described the pattern as “troubling” and extended condolences to the victims of the latest tragedy, which occurred at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, Abuja. The incident marks the third such occurrence in December 2024 alone.
Archbishop Okoh urged Nigerians to come together in love and solidarity to support those affected by these tragedies, emphasizing the need to honour the deceased by striving for a safer future.
“Let us commit to a future where every life matters and where we can gather in safety and peace, sharing in the abundance of food and support as one nation,” the statement read.
The CAN leader also offered prayers for the eternal rest of the departed souls and sought divine comfort for their grieving families.
