Nairobi, Kenya — The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the rescheduling of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) to August 2025.
The decision, revealed on Tuesday, follows recommendations from CAF’s Technical and Infrastructure experts, who have been monitoring preparations in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. While significant progress has been made in constructing and upgrading stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other essential facilities, the experts advised that more time is needed to meet the required standards for hosting a successful tournament.
CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, expressed gratitude to the Presidents of the three host nations—William Ruto of Kenya, Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, and Yoweri Museveni of Uganda—for their dedication and leadership.
“I am impressed with the ongoing construction and renovations of football infrastructure in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. I am confident that by August 2025, the stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other facilities will meet CAF’s standards for hosting a successful tournament,” Dr. Motsepe stated.
Draw Set for Nairobi
CAF confirmed that the draw for the biennial competition will take place in Nairobi on Wednesday. The exact date for the tournament’s commencement in August 2025 will be announced in due course.
The postponement underscores CAF’s commitment to ensuring the competition is hosted under optimal conditions, reflecting the high standards of African football.
