Burundi Special Envoy Courts Nigerian Investors

A high-level delegation from Burundi has arrived in Nigeria, seeking to strengthen business ties and attract Nigerian investments to Burundi.

Led by Ambassador Liberat Mfumukeko, Senior Advisor on Missions of the Presidency of Burundi, the delegation engaged with the Nigerian business community in Abuja, extending an invitation for investments in various sectors. Ambassador Mfumukeko highlighted Burundi’s openness to Nigerian investors and emphasized that such partnerships would enhance trade relations between the two nations.

“Burundi offers investment legislation that allows investors to repatriate profits, provided they adhere to local tax regulations,” Mfumukeko noted, underscoring the country’s investor-friendly policies.

Burundi’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Edouard Nduwimana, outlined the country’s vision to transition into an emerging economy by 2040 and a developed nation by 2060. He called for a spirit of cooperation, urging Nigerian investors to help drive mutual prosperity.

Former Nigerian Minister of Commerce, Alhaji Mustafa Bello, who attended the meeting, encouraged Nigerian businesses to seize the opportunity to collaborate with Burundi. He proposed establishing a Nigeria-Burundi Business Council and a Burundi-Nigeria Business Council to facilitate stronger economic ties between the two countries.
