Burglars Attempt Fail as Police Recovers Tools in Gombe

Gombe, Nigeria — The Gombe State Police Command have foiled an attempted shop burglary in the Buba Shongo area of Gombe metropolis, recovering several exhibits, including a motorcycle and burglary tools.

According to the police, the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, at about 3:00 a.m., when officers attached to Operation Hattara were on routine patrol.

The spokesperson for the command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said in a statement on Thursday, that the patrol team interrupted the criminal act just as a group of unidentified suspects was attempting to break into a shop.

“Upon approaching the scene, our operatives sighted a number of hoodlums trying to forcefully gain entry into a shop owned by one Muhammadu Adamu Musa, a 42-year-old male resident of the area. The suspects, on spotting the police patrol vehicle, took to their heels in different directions,” Abdullahi explained.

He noted that the police recovered key exhibits at the scene, including a black Yamaha motorcycle with registration number GME 480 VN, an iron chisel, and a pair of rubber slippers.

“These items are currently in our custody as an investigation into the case of criminal conspiracy and attempt to commit an offence is ongoing,” he added.

Abdullahi also used the opportunity to reaffirm the command’s decision to restrict motorcycle operations during night hours across Gombe State, noting the growing trend of motorcycles being used in nocturnal crimes.

“This incident and other similar ones justify the decision to impose night-time restrictions on motorcycles. Criminals continue to use them as a major tool for their operations,” he said.

The police spokesperson assured the residents that efforts were underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects, calling on the public to remain alert and share credible information with security agencies.

“We urge residents to remain vigilant and support the police with useful information. Our commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in Gombe State remains firm,” he stated.
