Abuja, Nigeria — Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has commended Dr. Akinwumi Adesina for what he described as an exceptional and historic tenure at the African Development Bank (AfDB), marking the end of Adesina’s two-term leadership of the continental financial institution.
In a message of goodwill, Buhari expressed satisfaction with Adesina’s achievements, praising his transformative leadership and highlighting his personal role in backing Adesina’s candidacy for both terms.
“I’ve witnessed the incredible impact Dr. Adesina — a distinguished Nigerian — has made during his time at AfDB,” Buhari noted. “As he steps down and hands over to a new successor, the records speak for themselves. He has raised the bar of excellence, leaving behind a legacy that is yet to be matched. I am proud to have supported his rise to this esteemed position.”
The former president further credited Adesina’s success to diligence, character, and deep commitment to service, describing him as a visionary whose journey reflects resilience, faith, and exceptional leadership.
“Dr. Adesina’s brilliance has continued to shine through the values of perseverance and purpose. He overcame challenges with unwavering resolve and served as a guiding light for many across the continent,” Buhari added.
He concluded by extending his best wishes to the outgoing AfDB President, praying for greater strength and continued accomplishments in his future pursuits.
