Brighton Stun Manchester United with Late Joao Pedro Strike

Brighton handed Manchester United a shocking defeat with a last-gasp goal from Joao Pedro in the 95th minute, securing a dramatic 2-1 win and continuing their unbeaten start to the season.

Manchester United believed they had secured victory when Alejandro Garnacho slotted home Bruno Fernandes’ low cross with just 18 minutes left on the clock. However, VAR ruled the goal offside, determining the ball had made contact with substitute Joshua Zirkzee before crossing the line.

Brighton capitalized on the overturned decision, as Joao Pedro calmly converted Simon Adingra’s cross at the far post, delivering a stunning blow to United and marking a memorable debut for Brighton’s new manager, Fabian Hurzeler.

Former Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck opened the scoring in the first half with his fifth Premier League goal against his old club. He came close to adding a second when his header struck the crossbar as Brighton piled on the pressure.

Manchester United fought back through Amad Diallo, who equalized on the hour mark, but Garnacho’s disallowed goal dashed their hopes of a comeback.

At the final whistle, Brighton’s triumph ignited celebrations, with Hurzeler, 31, visibly thrilled after a debut win that silenced skeptics. Billy Gilmour, who has been linked with a move to Napoli, was named Man of the Match, much to the delight of Brighton fans eager for him to stay.
