BREAKING: Supreme Court overturns National Lottery Act

In a breaking development, the Supreme Court has made a landmark decision by nullifying the National Lottery Act of 2005 passed by the National Assembly.

The ruling, which came as a result of a suit filed in 2008 by Lagos and other states, was made by a unanimous decision of seven Apex Court judges on Friday.

The judgment declared that the National Assembly did not have the constitutional authority to legislate on matters concerning lottery and games of chance.

According to the court, this jurisdiction solely belongs to the state Houses of Assembly, which have exclusive powers over lottery and games of chance within their respective states.

Justice Mohammed Idris delivered the lead judgment, emphasizing that the National Lottery Act of 2005 is no longer valid or enforceable in states, with the exception of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
