Paul Akintelure, a prominent contender for the governorship seat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has tragically passed away. Prior to his sudden death, Akintelure had voiced concerns about facing both direct and indirect threats to his safety.
Despite his initial hopes for an improvement in the situation, the threats against him intensified as the date for the APC governorship primary election, set for April 25, drew near.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Oladapo Akintelure, on Thursday, March 21, 2023, Akintelure remarked, “Initially, I hoped that these incidents would subside with time, but unfortunately, they have escalated to pose a grave danger to my life.”
“The challenges I have faced only serve to strengthen my determination to uphold what is just and right. I refuse to be swayed by fear in charting our course ahead.
“Let us embrace peace, progress, and unity. Our collective resilience lies in our ability to unite as one, despite our differences.”
It is worth noting that Akintelure had previously served as the running mate for Rotimi Akeredolu under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) ticket in a past election against Olusegun Mimiko of the Labour Party. Additionally, he contested a senatorial election against a candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party but was unsuccessful.
A medical practitioner by profession, Akintelure hailed from Igbotako in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State. This development comes amidst the escalating preparations for the upcoming Ondo governorship election.
