Mallam Sunusi Bature, the Director General of Information and Communication to the Kano State Governor, has made a serious accusation against Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Bature claims that Ganduje has deployed 46 armed security personnel to arrest him, allegedly in retaliation for reports that Ganduje was suspended by the APC executives at his ward level.
According to Bature, Ganduje’s actions are motivated by a desire for revenge, stemming from the suspension allegations made six months ago. However, in a significant development, a Kano High Court has intervened, granting an ex-parte order that restrains the Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies from arresting Bature.
The court’s order, issued on December 12, 2024, effectively shields Bature from what his legal team describes as “harassment and intimidation.” The order also extends to several high-ranking officers, including the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Zone 1, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, and Superintendent of Police (SP) Mojirade Obisiji.
A Kano High Court has issued an order, as per suit number K/M2500/2024, prohibiting any actions that could infringe on Mallam Sunusi Bature’s fundamental rights to liberty, dignity, and freedom of movement. This development comes after Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleged that Bature, alongside the New Nigeria Peoples Party-led Kano State Government, conspired against him, leading to his purported suspension by the APC ward executives.
Ganduje claimed that this move was an attempt to cripple his political influence. Acting on Ganduje’s petition, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) summoned Bature to Abuja, citing allegations of conspiracy and actions likely to breach public peace. However, Bature countered the invitation with a lawsuit, describing it as a politically motivated move designed to tarnish his reputation and disrupt his duties.

The court has also directed that all legal documents be served to the respondents, including the APC and senior police officers, through special bailiffs. The animosity between Bature and Ganduje dates back to 2015, when Ganduje, as governor-elect, reportedly ordered Bature’s arrest for campaigning against him during that year’s gubernatorial election.
In the latest twist, Ganduje allegedly briefed the IGP that Bature masterminded his suspension by the APC ward executives. Consequently, a team of 40 police officers from the IGP Monitoring Unit was reportedly mobilized to Kano to apprehend Bature after he declined the IGP’s invitation. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for January 22, 2025.
